Crazy Weekend, Yo!

This past weekend was the Southwestern Association of Law Libraries (SWALL) annual meeting. A colleague of mine, Lauren (who will probably read this so I won't talk smack about her), and I volunteered to lecture on Superheroes and the Theories of Legal Jurisprudence. That's a fancy way of saying that comic book superheroes tend to represent certain theories of criminal justice and those theories can be studied by reading comic books. Our talk took place Thursday afternoon and was one of the first ones so turnout was good (also the topic is kinda cool if I do say so myself). Shari snuck in and was able to see me lecture. It was her first time watching!

I knew how exciting Law Librarians could be so I was worried that Shari wouldn't be able to keep up with all of our craziness but she was quite the trooper! It helped that there was a Latinos in Science conference going on at the hotel at the same time. She wandered from display to display, picking up materials she might find useful in the classroom. There was a ton of horticulture stuff!

We trapesed around Old Town and ate a ton of food. We even went into downtown Albuquerque to eat pizza and watch the KU game. I got a migraine from a chocolate brownie which I totally deserved! Lauren even saw me eat it and she was like, "You are so going to get a headache." I totally believe I wouldn't have had she kept her trap shut!

Our return flight was scheduled for Saturday morning. You see, we had a cupcake party to attend Saturday night and there was no way we were going to miss that! Okay... there was a way: the closing of the Kansas City airport. A freak storm hit KC while we were in the air and the pilot was required to turn the plane around. We had to spend another night in Albuquerque! Luckily we were able to book a flight for early Sunday morning. We spent Saturday evening in a casino where I played blackjack and Shari fed the slots.

SWALL ended up being one of the best conferences I had ever been to (even with the canceled flight). It was small and I got to meet everyone. It also helped that the conference was being held in the hotel so there was no time loss going from room to meetings. The people there were great and I met a lot of new friends.
